Book Review: From Cubicle Slave to the Next Internet Millionaire

Congratulations to Jaime Luchuck — the Next Internet Millionaire

From Cubicle Slave to Next Internet MillionaireHer book, From Cubicle Slave to the Next Internet Millionaire, is a journal of her time on the the Next Internet Millionaire reality show.  I watched the show.  It was very interesting to read about it from the perspective of a contestant.

During a two-week period on the Next Internet Millionaire, Jaime learned Internet marketing from some of the web’s leading experts, including Mark Joyner, Armand Morin, Jeff Walker, Perry Marshall, Brad Fallon and Joel Comm.

She shares some of  the marketing strategies and techniques that she learned while on location, and shares tips for list-building, copywriting, making videos, branding and much, much more.

I must admit I was rooting for Jaime because she comes from a very similar career background. Before becoming a virtual assistant, I also worked in web design/PR for a local government.  It is true that the rules that need to exist to make the government sites accessible to everyone also can really stifle your creativity. I was pleasantly surprised when I started working for myself — how easy it was to add interactivity to your sites, take credit cards, etc.

I also could identify with the fear involved in quitting your job.  In a sense, I was very lucky.  I moved halfway across the country and decided not to look for  a job in my new city.  I also worked for my former employer for six months until my business got going.   I was really lucky.

Reading the book was a bit like going on a deep sea diving expedition.  There are definately pearls of wisdom there, you just need to search a bit to find them.  So much is covered in such a short book (the story of the contest plus snippets of widsom from all of the Internet marketers) that it isn’t surprising that a lot gets glossed over.  Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the book, and would recommend it.  I can’t wait to see what Jamie does as the Next Internet Millionaire.
