Monster Tip #5 - Maybe Swiper Isn’t Such A Bad Guy…

by Meredith on December 19, 2007

OK — I’m probably pigeon-holing myself here. But, I’m taking my own advice and writing what I know.  One of my favorite Dora the Explorer characters is Swiper the fox.  Swiper is a mischeivious character who randomly steals stuff from Dora and sends her on fabulous (and well-ordered) adventures to get her stuff back.

One of the very best ways to produce  great content is to swipe it.

No, I am not advocating wholesale plagarsm, but rather, saving copies of email and web text that really motivates you.  What is it about the text the stirs your emotions?  Does it have a catchy headline?  Does it give you an offer you just can’t refusse?  Is the article or resource box at the end written in a particularly clever way?  Swipe it.

Create a file of all of your "hidden gems".  When you need ideas for how to structure an article or an offer, go back to your "swipe" file and pick something that works.  Use the structure, but fill it in with you own content.  You’ll learn from another writer and provide something original at the same time.

Before you know it, people will be swiping your stuff too.
